Each question can be controlled in terms of what respondents see on their page, how they interact with the question and how each question behaves for the respondent. 

Each question type brings its own set of customization, validations and advanced settings that can be modified via the platform.

Below we talk about the general actions that can be performed with questions along with how to utilize these advanced settings.

4.1 Managing a Question

4.1.1 Editing Question

Once a question has been added to the survey, it can be edited. While editing the question, you can change the question type, alter the settings and change its order. The steps to editing a question are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to edit.

Step 2: Expand the Questions menu to view question-specific customizations available.

Step 3: Make the changes you wish to change and click Publish.

NOTE: You can change the Question Type or Sub-Question Type by selecting them from their respective dropdowns. However, when switching between Question Types, the original question text, options and any configurations are deleted.

 

4.1.2 Deleting & Restoring Questions

To delete a question: 

Step 1: Click the three dots on the question you wish to delete.

Step 2: Click the Delete option.

Step 3: Select Yes Button on the prompt.

NOTE: Deleting the question will cause you to lose the data collected via that question. Please make sure before deleting the question in a survey. 

If you wish to store the response data but remove a question from being visible to a respondent, you may use the functionality to Hide Question.

To restore a question:

Step 1: Go to the page you wish to restore the question to.

Step 2: Click the Add Question button.

Step 3: Next to the New Question tab on the top right, click the Deleted questions option.

Step 4: Hover to the question you want to restore.

Step 5: Click the Restore button to restore the question to the survey page.

4.2 Hiding A Question

Hiding a question comes in handy when you do not want to delete a question from a survey but don’t want respondents to see one question. This feature is useful when you want to hide a question from the survey when it is already live. 

Deleting a question in a live survey can lead to data loss but that’s not the case with Hiding a question. The steps to do so are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to hide.

Step 2: Click the three dots on the right side of the question.

Step 3: Select Hide Question.

To show a hidden question in a survey:

Step 1: Go to the hidden question you want to make public.

Step 2: Click the three dots on the right side of the question and select Show Question.

4.3 Piping

You can enter additional information from a previous question or answer to the next question using piping. It is used to make the survey personalized for respondents. 

The steps to adding piping in a question are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to insert piping to. 

Step 2: Click the Piping Option.

Step 3: Select an option from the pop-up. You can pipe embedded data like names, contacts, loop sets (looping link), and even choices in the question.

Step 4: Select options to pipe and click Save.

Step 5: Piped options will appear in the format {{ }}.

4.4 Options Settings

The following settings are applicable for Choice Questions, including but not limited to: Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Matrix, etc.

4.4.1 Additional Text Option

Additional Text question setting is used when you want to add additional text to option choices. You can choose to show them or hide them. This is majorly used in multiple-choice, Single choice question, where you want additional text answers from your respondents. 

The steps to adding Additional text settings are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to add the setting to.

Step 2: Click the three dots on the right side of answer choice.

Step 3: Enable the Additional Text option.

Step 4: Click Publish to save changes.

4.4.2 Adding Media

You can add media to the survey at various points to make it more interactive and personalized. You can add an image to a question, answer choice, and introduction page.

The steps to adding a media file are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to add the media to. 

Step 2: Click right the side of the option/question.

Step 3: Click the Add Media button.

 Step 4: Select the image file.

5. Click Save.

4.5 Additional Question Settings

4.5.1 Not Applicable (Is N/A)

Not Applicable Question Setting can be applied to when you want the respondents to have the option to not select any answer choice. 

Once applied, the respondents can select it, and it will reflect accordingly in the analysis part. You can either add this setting while creating a question or edit a question to add this setting.

The steps to adding the setting are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the question you want to add the setting to. 

Step 2: Enable the “Is N/A” Option.

Step 3: Click Publish to save changes.

4.5.2 Question Settings

Add Subtext: This is applicable for most question types and allows the survey designer to add supporting text below the question title. This can be customized as per your preference.

Enable Search: This is used in the case when you want to add a search button below the answer choice to allow respondents to search for answer choices from the list.

Pipe Only Plain Text: This is used in the case when you only want to pipe only the text without the media.

Alignment: This is used to change the alignment of the answer choices.

Display Poll Results: Display question summary after respondent has answered the question. This allows the respondent to view the question trends of how other people have responded to the option set.

Display Options as Plain Text: This is used in the case when you only want to display the text of the answer choice without the media.

Selection Limit: For a multiple-choice question, specify the number of selections the respondent must do before submitting the answer. The value can be static or between a range.

Mark Required Question: When enabled, it makes the question compulsory to answer. The respondent will not be able to proceed to next question or page if no answer is specified.

Don’t Display Texts in Options: This is used in the case when you don’t want to display texts in the answer choices.

Embedded data choices: This is used in the case when you want to embed the answer choice.

Display Analysis in Export: This option is used in the case when you want to display the analysis in the export file of the survey.

Show additional text on option selection: This option is used to hide or show the additional text option under answer choices.

Different View on Mobile: This is used to change the view of the Survey on Mobile.

Maximum Rank: This is used when you have many answer choices to be ranked and  want to limit the ranking to a particular number. The maximum rank is the highest number that respondents can assign. 

Global Validation: This is used to apply Validation for all answer choices.

Sum of All Input Boxes: This is used when you want to calculate the sum of all answer choices automatically. This can only be used if number validation is applied to the answer choices.

Show Sum of All Input Boxes: This option when enabled shows the sum of all the input boxes for the question.

Bipolar: This option is used to change the spacing between answer choices.

Embedded Data Rows: This option is used when an answer choice is piped. If the piping cannot retrieve any data, that answer choice will not be shown to  respondents when this option is enabled.

Desktop View on Mobile: Changes the display to a desktop view on mobile devices.

Mobile View on Desktop: Change the display and apply mobile view on desktop devices.

Field Input(Slider): Allows respondents to manually enter a rating number instead of dragging the slider.

Visibility(Password): Adds a button that allows you to view the password while typing.

Recode Values: This helps you recode the values of the weights assigned to answer choices.

Statement: In choice-based question, you can make one of your choices as a statement by clicking this button.

Hide Options: You can hide an answer choice even after the survey is live. Without deleting it, the hidden answer choice will not be shown to respondents.
